About Me

  • Do you often say to yourself,  “I bet I can make that.”?
  • Do you appreciate the unique beauty and quality of handmade things?
  • Are you driven to continuously learn, solve problems and develop your making skills?
  • Do you revel in being able to say, “I made it!”?

My name is Chris Blevins, and I am a Makeling.
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a Makeling, too!

I just love to make things – always have.
Over the years between work and family I’ve dabbled in many handcraft areas – from sewing arts like quiltmaking and leatherwork, to decorative arts like mosaic tiling, and even heritage folk arts like Ukrainian pysanky and embroidery. Recently retired from a long career as a graphic/interior designer, I now have the time and space to explore the maker world more deeply.

I also love to travel, and always seek out interesting resources and makers of handcrafted items wherever we go. As an avid sewist, intrepid DIYer, and published author of historical fiction, I fancy Makelings.com will be the little corner of the internet where I stitch together the joys of handcraft, writing and travel.

So, welcome to Makelings! A place where I hope you linger for a bit to gather some inspiration that helps you along your own maker’s path.

“To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.”

Kurt Vonnegut
